Here it is, the convergence of big time heavies. Andrew Weiss and Sim Cain have loomed large over my life as the original rhythm section of Rollins Band (as well as playing together in Gone and Scorn Flakes). John Zorn is the sax wailer behind Naked City, Painkiller, Electric Masada, and an endless string of projects. Incredibly prolific. Hard to believe that this Full Set footage has hung out on YouTube for nine years without me knowing. And at sub-8,000 views, I guess without anyone knowing. Wanna get real real gone for a change? While we’re talking loosely about Rollins Band related things, let’s take a listen to the Third Rail album End It. I’ll go to the end of the world to say that Third Rail is to Rollins Band what Bl’ast! was to Black Flag. And just like Bl’ast! being better than the later Black Flag material, End It outplays the later Rollins Band catalog. May as well check out a live video as well. Contrary to the still image below, that is not actually Rollins.
