Another day, another review. Ever/Never’s back, two in a row. Great label, usually. I’m still in the throes of workin’ but that’s life for ya. Just trying to stay heated in the sudden temp plummet. Hate this shit, though I’ve lived here all my life. Maybe I just love to complain? Then again, complaints are easy to find and I’d locate ‘em wherever. Whatever.
Workers Comp - S/T (Ever/Never)
Another corker from the Ever/Never camp. A comp of some tapes, a single, and a straggler, so the sound isn’t exactly what they’d call cohesive. But that’s not a bad thing. The pliability of the band comes across in spades. “When I’m Here” opens like Townes Van Zandt having a hootenanny with The Replacements. It moves into the Gizmos-style denim jacket rocker of “Pick and Choose.” One tune after another it’s rumblin’ tumblin’ rock and roll. Feels like it could go off the tracks at any moment, but never loses its grip. Distilled no-bullshit loosey-goosey rock and roll of this caliber doesn’t just fall from the skies. If you’ve got any Retail Simps recs in your stack you better give this ‘un a listen.
