Review: The Gabys - S/T
The premier Mumble-Pop group
I’m making some headway on this yearly list. Can I crank through by the end of the year? We’ll get back to the interviews sometime in January, but for now it’s cranking on the short form. Lots of great shit this year and I’m still stumbling across more.
The Gabys - S/T (Fruit & Flowers)
Most anything within a sniff of a shoegaze tag is a real turn off these days. And then there’s The Gabys. The previous EP was all buried vocals and overdriven guitars, but this one’s tapping more into a Velvets-y vibe on three outta four tracks. “Familiar Dreams” is the outlier, but I ain’t complaining. I’d say let’s go for a full album, but I don’t want to upset the tender balance. Keep churning out spectacular EP’s if you want. I’m perfectly happy to gobble them up.
